RSS feeds on mobile phones
Many mobile phones have built-in Internet access. Unfortunately, websites are often unsuited for the relatively small displays on mobile phones, and consequently many websites now have special mobile pages. (The Royal Danish Mint is currently looking into this option.)
Many mobile phones with Internet access can also display RSS feeds, which are indeed suited for the display size, etc. of mobile phones. This gives you access to e.g. real-time exchange rates on your mobile phone in an easy-to-read format.
URLs
When accessing the Internet via your mobile phone, you must enter the URL of the page, RSS feed or other content you wish to access – as you would do on a PC. For example, the RSS feed displaying news from the Royal Danish Mint can be accessed at: http://www.royalmint.dk/dkm/uk/meta.nsf/dnnews.rss
However, using your mobile phone's numeric keys to enter an URL can be a bit of a challenge if you are not a wizard at text messaging. The Royal Danish Mint therefore offers a shortcut by way of a QR code containing the URL. The QR code for the above URL is:
Technical requirements
To access RSS feeds via bar codes, you mobile phone must meet the following requirements:
built-in camera
Internet access
built-in RSS reading functionality
bar code reader installed
Procedure
Activate your phone's bar code reader.
Hold your phone close to the bar code on the monitor so that the phone's camera can film the bar code.
When the code has been deciphered, open the scanned link.
